Culture
Culture is the way of life. From sports to food even to the way we celebrate our birthday. When we think about culture we think something complicated, but it's quite simple. It's the way we live - whether you have a roast every Sunday
or you go out for a family day every Saturday. Culture is important, if we didn't have culture we wouldn't have life.
Food
Every city and town has markets where people shop for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. There are supermarkets and many small shops specialising in one kind of food. Food is one of Italy's main
exports. On farms in Italy farmers grow oranges, apples, peaches, tomatoes, garlic, rice and wheat. Pigs, sheep, chickens, goats and dairy cattle are raised on farms.
Tomatoes are grown in most parts of Italy. They are canned or made into tomato paste and pasta sauces.
Olives are crushed to make olive oil. The oil is used for cooking and in salad dressing. Olives can also be eaten.
Grapes are turned into wine.
Wheat is made into pasta and biscotti.
Rice is used to make risotto.
Garlic is used in salads and is crushed into sauces for pasta and used to flavour meat dishes including salami.
Milk is made into gelato(ice-cream).
Birthdays
If you're a kid then you get a small party with your parents and neighbours and get
few presents. When you're turning eighteen it is a must to rent a venue and
invite 100 people or so. It is not uncommon to invite 2 or 3 hundred people.
Most eighteen birthdays would like to have a reception like a wedding, with lots
of big tables, balloons and streamers.
For about an hour everyone mingles and settles down. The party starts around 7:30-8:30. At around 9-9:30 dinner starts. Dinner is usually a buffet, but some people choose to have their party catered. For the first course there is always meat, cheese and little things to nibble on. The second course if pasta, salads, lasagne and pig. Then for deser there is fruit and sweets. Wine and beer are required at a very long table, along with water (natural or fizzy). When all the foods eaten, everyone starts to dance. Then they'll go out for cake, pop champagne and everyone takes photo with the birthday girl or boy. Then the cake is brought out and more dancing is done.
As an adult, you generally just invite your family or close friends to a restaurant or to the house for dinner and cake.

Weddings
If a man wants to marry a woman then he would have to talk to her father. Once the father had said yes and the family was fine with it the groom would put a diamond ring on his bride to be's finger. Then the wife would go and collect some of her grooms things and put them in a box or chest.
Italian weddings are always held in churches.
Guests must throw rice and paper at the newlyweds, and the more thats' thrown the better it is for the couple. After the wedding a vase or a glass is dropped and brocken. Then the pieces are counted and however many pieces there are means how long the couple will be happily married.
